AutoDesk (AutoCAD/3ds Max):
Autodesk has discontinued the availability of Educational licenses for use by staff for facilities or administrative functions. Ohio State must now buy government rate licenses, which are approximately 90% the cost of a commercial license.
If Autodesk software is being used for purely educational use (see https://www.autodesk.com/education/about-autodesk-education for more information), then the software is free and can be downloaded from https://www.autodesk.com/education/home.
If being uses for facilities or administrative use, please note the following.
- Licenses only need to be purchased if users plan to edit drawings. Free viewers will be made available for AutoCAD, Revit, and other Autodesk file formats.
- Depending on the software chosen, floating licenses are used to limit the cost. The software can be installed on an unlimited number of machines, and only when being used will the license be consumed.
- Sharing floating licenses with other departments will further reduce the overall number of licenses needed.
Options:
- For viewing only, Autodesk TrueView should be installed. There is no cost to this solution, and a package is available currently. Enter a request on self-service for this software
- If editing of DWG (AutoCAD) or RVT (Revit) files is needed, purchasing an Autodesk collection license is required. While packages are available currently through OCIO, they will not function without first being purchased. Please contact Joe Porostosky, Porostosky.1@osu.edu to arrange purchase of licenses.
